Hello and welcome to Glazomania by me, Gretchen Kalwinski, copy director by day, and contributing editor to Jumble & Flow. Bylines at Volume 1 Brooklyn, Belt Magazine, Chicago Reader, Time Out Chicago, The Dodo.
What is this?
Glazomania is lists of stuff I think about, i.e.:
Creativity (Writing; kitchen-witchery)
Health:
Physical: Chronic illness; healing from disordered eating
Mental: (FYI, I’m an INFJ | Enneagram type 5 | Leo-Gemini-Aries)
Ancestral healing (I think about this intergenerational trauma study a lot)
Therapy (Cognitive & somatic; meditation)
Feelings (Have you read The Highly Sensitive Person? You might like it here)
Seasonal depression / Winter Blues / (SAD)
Class & labor: Both of my grandmothers were cleaning ladies. I write for them.
Feminism (& learning to be an intersectional feminist)
Being childfree: I love your kids but this was 100% the right decision for me
Dogs: My lifelong and eternal co-pilots
Who are you?
My brain thinks in lists. My former thesis advisor—the brilliant novelist Goldie Goldbloom—noticed and prompted me to try lists as a writing format, so here we are.
I’ve written articles, copy, and essays about travel, the Midwest, animals, being Polish American, and self-care for publications like the The Midst, Jumble & Flow, and the Chicago Reader. My work has been anthologized, most recently in Chicago: Rust Belt Anthology. I have an MFA in from Northwestern University and as an activist/organizer, I’ve ghostwritten for orgs that I love, including the public art project You Are Beautiful, and the National Domestic Workers Alliance. I was an organizer and marshal for the 2017 Women's March on Chicago.
